Consider the Lillies

tiger_lilliesYou could call them the house band for any twisted verse worth reading.  They’re one part Monty Python (the nasty-smelling, grubby part, with all sorts of gruesome things hanging from it); another part, Edward Gorey; a bit of Brecht and Weill; a dash of Dame Edna; a drop of Charles Addams; and decorated with grown men in pig masks from your most wounded, accordion-fueled nightmares, as directed by David Lynch.  They’ve adapted Heinrich Hoffmann’s work “Struwwelpeter” as the junk opera  Shockheaded Peter, and they’ve collaborated with the Kronos Quartet to freely adapt Edward Gorey’s macabre rhymes to the Grammy-nominated CD, the Gorey End

Claire Smith, writing for The Scotsman, described their music as “dark gypsy cabaret, shimmering with menace”.  They’ve searched for the tomb of H.P. Lovecraft, but now they’re going on tour in the United States from October 16th through November 6th.  The closest they’ll come to Kenosha, WI, however, is Columbus, OH, so, if you can’t make the trip, enjoy a glass of gin and this video by the Tiger Lillies, the self-proclaimed, world’s foremost death oompah band.
